What we do

Helping children and adults with disabilities experience the benefits of riding and working with horses.

Stevenage RDA is based at Model Farm in Shillington and provides therapeutic riding lessons for young pupils from three local SEND schools on Monday mornings, and for young adults on Thursday mornings during school term time.

Our riders face a variety of personal challenges, but interaction with ponies and horse riding is known to bring significant physical, emotional and social benefits. We work closely with the schools and other organisations to ensure our sessions support the pupils’ wider learning, whether as part of their school curriculum or alongside other therapy programmes they may be undertaking.

Stevenage RDA is one of around 500 groups across the UK that form part of the Riding for the Disabled Association network. Through the national organisation we have access to specialist training, guidance and support to help us provide safe, effective and rewarding riding experiences for our participants.

We meet during school term times:

  • Monday 9:15am – 12:00pm (Children from local SEND Schools)
  • Thursday 9:15am – 12:00pm (Independent Riders & Young Adults)
